30-Minute Satay Recipe: Fast Malaysian Street Food at Home

Cultural Significance:

Satay was influenced by Indonesian traders but Malaysian versions use sweeter marinades. It’s a must-have at night markets, served
with peanut sauce and ketupat (rice cakes).

Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken thigh (cubed).

  • Marinade: 1 tbsp coriander, 1 tsp cumin, 1 lemongrass (minced), 1 tbsp sugar.

  • Peanut sauce: 1 cup roasted peanuts, 2 tbsp sweet soy sauce, 1 tsp tamarind paste.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Marinate: Coat chicken in spices for 2 hours. Skewer onto bamboo sticks.

  2. Grill: Cook over charcoal, basting with oil.

  3. Sauce: Blend peanuts, soy sauce, and tamarind with water until smooth.

Tip: Soak skewers in water to prevent burning.
